The paper presents the behavior of basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) crop in two intercropping systems with runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.) and cherry tomatoes (Licopersicon esculentum L.). The obtained results were evaluated based on morphological and phenological characteristics of the chosen species, revealing the agrophitotechnological character of alimentary basil and its productivity in the two intercropping systems. Due to the decorative valences that basil presents, which were highlighted in the intercropping systems, this species brings unity and harmony to the specific ornamental vegetable garden of our country

Influence of ecological foliar fertilizers on yield and morphometric parameters in cultivated medicinal and aromatic plants (basil, marigold, artichoke)

The significance of cultivating aromatic and medicinal plants in ecological settings derives also from the fact that the usage of such species implies direct contact with humans, through consumption or otherwise. Enhanced knowledge of herbs and spices and their ecological cropping is required for a better exploitation of their outstanding properties and which are based on biologically active substances such as alkaloids, phenolic compounds or essential oils. This paper includes the results of the research conducted within UASVM Iasi, Faculty of Agronomy, focused on the influence of ecological foliar fertilizers (Fylo®, Geolino Plants&Flowers®, Cropmax®, Fitokondi®) on the yield and morphological indices on medicinal and aromatic plants: basil, marigold and artichoke. Our results showed positive effects of ecological foliar fertilizers on the investigated plant species, especially on the yield of fresh herbs

Biological indicators of heavy metal in water and soil

The land and water pollution is very frequently encountered. The Black Smith Institute of New York comes out that there are the most polluted places in the world. Hierarchy criteria for creating the rank with the most polluted places were: the number of the people affected the toxicity of the agents and the evidence regarding the health problems caused by pollution in a certain area. The objective of this work is to identify points of view regarding heavy metal pollution as well as providing details on environmental technologies on the rehabilitation of contaminated sites, like GEOLIFE technology. We offered some examples about plants that could be used as bioindicators for soil pollution and about the consequences of the pollution of marine ecosystems by heavy metals, from the Black Sea Coast. The treatment of the contaminated water with ecological product PETROLSYNTH generates rapid decomposition of the existent contaminants, the removal of the existent materials, the appearance of vegetal algae immediately after the treatment, immediate application of the treatment, low costs in order to apply the treatment

The paper presents an analysis of Romanian household vegetable gardens, based on ornamental criteria and specific vegetable growing technologies characteristic to these plant displays in cultivation. The weak and strong points of the studied vegetable gardens were marked out through a SWOT analysis and based on it solutions were elaborated to improve them on an aesthetic, technologic and workable level in accordance with specialized literature. The obtained results offered unity, balance and an increasing aesthetic value to the plant display, participating in an active mater to the enlargement of their sustainability degree

On the agricultural use of sewage sludge in Romania

    Get PDF
The construction of new waste water treatment facilities in Romania, especially in rural areas, increases the production of sewage sludge. European Commission recommends the reuse of wastes and since sewage sludge is a byproduct of waste water treatment, sustainable approach must be taken into consideration for the proper management and disposal. Sewage sludge contains high amounts of organic matter and nutrients and thus the reuse in agriculture is very important. This can be achieved following secondary treatment of the sewage sludge (biosolids) and depends also on the local conditions. Because the use of sewage sludge in agriculture is limited in Romania in accordance with its potential, the aim of the current paper is to emphasize the benefits of reusing this waste

Ocimum L. genus includes about 160 species and varieties, and one of the most popular is Ocimum basilicum L. Cultivated for over 1000 years, common basil is a valuable aromatic and medicinal plant, widely used both in traditional and in scientific medicine, in the perfume and food industry, in cosmetics, organic farming, landscaping and the plant product has profound religious significance, serving as an object of worship. This paper aims to present in a synthetic manner the most important implications of the species Ocimum basilicum L. in human preoccupations ever, highlighting the potential of its use in various fields. By choosing as a research method based on the observation and study of literature, an overview will highlight its main aspects concerning origin, history and the spreading area, the organ used, chemical composition, biological features, requirements for climate and soil, therapeutic actions and uses. Finally, the authors propose the diversification of usability of the studied species, by opening new approach perspectives for the future studies

PARTICULAR ASPECTS OF IMPACTED MAXILLARY CANINE IN CHILDREN – A NARRATIVE REVIEW

    No full text
Canine impactions are frequently encountered in the pediatric population. Impacted canines may pose a functional and esthetic problem for patients and can affect the neighboring teeth (incisors and premolars). Early detection and management of such pathology may help the pediatric dentist and orthodontist to prevent many unwanted local and regional complications. Various surgical and orthodontic techniques may be used to recover impacted maxillary canines. The decision to surgically correct these impacted teeth is usually made by the orthodontist. The treatment of impacted teeth requires a multidisciplinary team comprising orthodontist, pediatric dentist, dento-alveolar surgeon, and sometimes a periodontist
